About Stirling
This is Braveheart country! But also much more........
Stirling, the old capital of Scotland is steeped in history, from William Wallace and the battle of Stirling Bridge, through the Battle of Bannockburn where Robert the Bruce defeated the 'auld enemy', to Stirling Castle itself, haughtily perched atop inland clifftops, which has played host to many of Scotland's rulers, including Mary Queen of Scots, and her son, James VI who was christened in the castle, and who later became James I of the United Kingdom.
Stirling has a wide range of visitor attractions to offer. It has a rich heritage, including some of Scotland's most important historical sites. Landmarks include the famous Wallace Monument, Stirling Castle and the Bannockburn Heritage Centre.
Stirling is an important town in central Scotland and therefore is well served with road and rail links, with a half hourly train service to both Glasgow and Edinburgh. Known as the Gateway to the highlands Stirling offers a great base to tour from and indeed the surrounding area has much to offer.
